A Positive Program Result
Redeemer Lutheran School in Verona, PA is one of our newer partnership programs. LSEM has been at the Oakmont Campus for 2 years now. Our teacher Megan Govan has been a great asset and we wanted to give you an idea of how her resource room functions.
Megan is a full-time resource room teacher and last school year she saw 20 students daily. Her students have various academic needs. For some, she teachers their core classes, for others she facilitates the math or language arts lessons they get from their classroom teachers. To some she provides extra instruction, or helps them with organization, or motivates them about work completion. Sometimes, she simply provides a space in her resource room for a quieter space to work or deescalate.
This is the beauty of an LSEM Resource Room. They are built to be individualistic and adaptable. They serve whatever the needs are of the students.
The results are seen in the way students blossom. Megan had an 8th grade student who finally started to show his true colors to his peers and other teachers. He began raising his hand independently in class to volunteer answers and contribute to discussions. He was also a positive contributing partner in group work for his classes. Megan shares that all of his teachers were excited about this change and they couldn’t wait to tell her about his improvement.
Now a 9th grader, Megan says that he continues to come out of his shell. She believes his progress is due to the fact that LSEM is present in the school and allows her to prove to him that he can be successful in all of his classes.
The Redeemer program in Verona continues to grow every year. This year, Megan is working with about 30 students. Even more opportunity to reach out and help children and students learn and grow. Thank you, Megan, for all that you do! And thank you Redeemer for welcoming LSEM into your school to make a difference in the lives of your students!
