Connecting in a Time of Difficulty

LSEM teachers see not only academic changes and improvements in their students, but also personal ones. This Wow story is about one of those personal changes.

Our teacher William Jacobs has an older student, Aiden, who has major avoidance issues.

It has been difficult to connect to Aiden. He has been going through some tough times. Aiden is living with a guardian and not his biological parents. He is also very good at manipulating and avoiding work.

Recently, Aiden’s grandfather had a stroke. Mr. Jacobs believes that Aiden saw the fragility of life and worried about what he would do if he lost his grandfather. This has had a large impact on his life. In a turn for the better, Aiden has started to own up to his previous manipulation tactics and realizes he needs to be honest and he needs to do the work set before him in order to see improvement and success.

Mr. Jacobs was able to relate to Aiden on a personal level as his own grandfather was also an integral part of his life. Mr. Jacob’s grandfather was the one who introduced him to Jesus. It has been incredibly encouraging to see Aiden turn things in a more positive direction.

This is why it is our mission to serve children who have learning needs in Christian schools and environments. They can receive academic help, but they also are surrounded by loving, God-fearing role models, teachers, and supporters.
