High School Transformation

This is my fourth year at Mayer Lutheran High School, so the students I started with are graduating this year. One of the seniors I have been working with since his freshman year has REALLY made some great growth over these four years, and I am so proud of him for his perseverance!

Academics have always been a struggle for him — a huge struggle! On top of that  he had to make some tough choices regarding friends and all the temptations of the teenage years. The last 3.5 years have been full of late assignments, failing tests, and reluctance to do work. However, this last quarter he has “turned it on.”

He completed all his memory work for the “Articles of Faith” course on time and even submitted his final paper on the day it was due. This was a very rare occasion! He is more current with his assignments than he has ever been. I think he is finally getting it. He sees the big picture. He sees that this school is full of teachers who are pushing him to his fullest potential. It’s pretty cool!

He chose to use my room to ask a girl to prom by writing a huge message on my white board. It’s a platonic date, but they both are very excited about going. Together we have been planning details like colors, flowers, tie or bow tie, etc. It has been fun to see him grow. He is my WOW.
