The Hybrid Classroom

For the past year, school has looked different for all students across the country. School buildings closed and teaching went fully virtual. As we begin to lean towards a new normal in our lives, teaching has taken on a new normal as well. Every one of our partnerships has a technological component to it now. We are utilizing tech in new ways that allow us to continue to reach out and help children with learning needs, and that technology will continue to play a large part in sustaining and increasing our capabilities of helping more students across the country.

We call it our Hybrid Classroom. It’s a place where some students learn in person, while others receive help virtually. Hear from Cathy Roohan at First Lutheran School in Torrance, CA as she describes how she has implemented the Hybrid Classroom.

“I recently taught a letter formation lesson for 1 kindergartener in-person and 2 kindergarteners via Zoom. I used a variety of technological tools to get the job done: a laptop and projector to cast the Zoom class on a white board, a document camera to show the direct lesson, and an iPad to provide visual processing accommodations for the student. Even though this situation involved so much effort and technology, I was able to stay connected with the students online AND in-person. The virtual lesson went very well!”
