Work From Home Desk Challenge

It’s now mid July, which means that those of us here in Michigan at the LSEM national office have been working from home for 4 months now. Wild. Kind of blows your mind, right?

Hi there! I’m Caitlin McCallum and I am the Donor Relations Specialist for LSEM. Today I’m sharing what my “home office” looks like, and I challenge you to do the same. How have your made working from home work for you?

I never expected to need a home office space. I had moved to a new apartment just 2 weeks before the shut down in Michigan and I don’t own a traditional desk. Not wanting to buy a new piece of furniture for what was initially thought to be a short term situation, I made do with what I already had. It took some trial and error and quite a bit of fluidity, but I finally found a setup that works for me as I work from home.

I ended up moving my coffee table to face my porch. I have a beautiful view out into the woods behind my building and it makes me smile to be able to look up from work and see all that green nature! I keep my water close by to make sure I stay hydrated, and I usually sit on the floor on a pillow and then get up every hour to stretch and walk around.

Of course, there was also a lot that I needed to bring home in order to work over these past months. I ended up turning my kitchen bar into my filing/storage area. There’s also a box of files and folders on the floor just out of frame. I can’t wait to transition this to our new office space in Ann Arbor. Then I can put my bar stools back and finally enjoy eating here!
