Mark 1:2-3, “I will send a messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” — “a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make paths straight for him.’ ”
Can you imagine being confronted by John the Baptist today? John probably would make a person a little uncomfortable by his attire as verse six of this chapter in Mark tells us “John wore clothing made of camel’s hair with a leather belt around his waist.” I believe it would be safe to say, John would not make a very good or pleasant first impression of someone who is preparing us for the coming of the Savior. But we know that the message God delivers to us is not always pleasant or for that matter what we want or like, but He always gives us what we need. John the Baptist delivered the message of what we needed, the preaching of repentance.
We must come to understand that Christmas was not just a nice story, but it is a story of our salvation that only comes through Christ. We know that Christ’s story was not always pleasant but He is here with us, to save us from our sinful life to one of eternal life with Him. God used John to prepare the way for the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ. God also uses us today to prepare the way of Christ to our students and their families. Ask God to use you to “point” our families to the path that leads to our Savior! Amen.
